HIPAA Background Check Information

Because of the sensitivity of many medical records, all individuals that have access to view or search those records should have a clean HIPAA background check before they are allowed to access those records. The reason why the background check is necessary for these individuals is that a great deal of damage can be done by disclosing a person's medical history without authorization and medical employers want to be sure that they will not be sued because one of their employees disclosed personal information. Although not required by law, many employers will not hire a person that will have access to medical records without them having a clean background check.
A clean HIPAA background check may be considered a requirement for employment for many companies that hire healthcare employees. By passing the background check, the employee is indicating that they have not had any problems in the past, leading the company to believe that there is a lower risk of issues arising in the future. There are a number of items that can blemish a background check and limit the individual's chances of employment in the healthcare field.
If a person's HIPAA background check discloses that the person has been convicted of certain types of crimes, such as abuse, neglect, fraud, or embezzlement, they may immediately be disqualified for employment with the healthcare company. Companies want to hire individuals that will not cost them money in lawsuits or penalties, so having a clear background check will make the company much more interested in adding you to the team.
